In the run up to the State of the Nation Address, workers belonging to Manggagawa Kontra Chacha (MKC) today again took to the streets, and banged their pots and pans, in protest against the Arroyo regime’s incessant efforts to amend the Charter.
“So long as Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is in power, full employment will remain elusive and workers will continue to suffer from low wages, hunger, housing shortages and constant violations of their rights” Edwin Bustillos, Deputy Secretary General of the Alliance of Progressive Labor (APL) and one of the spokespersons of MKC, said. “She remains to be biggest threat to whatever remains of our fragile democracy, and she will have no compunction to do whatever it takes to extend her reign of greed,” Bustillos added.
The workers’ action is in conjunction with TindigNation’s noise barrage today.
The MKC is the broadest labor coalition against charter change and any form of term extension. The coalition vows to make sure that this year’s SONA would definitely be PGMA’s final SONA.
“Thousands of MKC members will be out in the streets of key cities around the country on Monday to bid Arroyo good riddance,” Bustillos said.
MKC member organizations will mobilize in the NCR, Lipa, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Cotabato, Cagayan de Oro and General Santos during the SONA.
MKC is composed of the APL, MAKABAYAN, Kongreso ng Pagkakaisa ng Manggagawa sa Pilipinas (KPMP), Partido ng Manggagawa (PM) and many other labor groups.
